How to Store Leftover Homemade Tartar Sauce

Our homemade tartar sauce should be stored in the fridge in an airtight container. It will keep for up to 3 days, but be sure to give it a good stir before using as the ingredients may separate over time.

Do not freeze tartar sauce as mayonnaise does not freeze well.

If you find yourself with a surplus of tartar sauce, consider using it as a dip for your favourite veggies or as a spread on sandwiches. It adds a delicious tangy kick to any dish!

About the Ingredients for Tartar Sauce

Mayonnaise – Use only real mayonnaise, I used Hellman’s.

Onion – I highly recommend grating the onion. I use the large grater on a box grater for the onion. You can also just finely mince the onion with a knife but the grater makes quick work of this job.

Relish – The green relish adds some tang to the tartar sauce.

Carrot – Again, grating the carrots is so easy. I use the medium grater on a box grater for the carrots. I do short grates so that the pieces end up about the size of a grain of rice. You do not want long peices of carrot.

Sugar – Balances the flavours o the sauce and helps to slightly sweeten it.
